Seville has to be one of the most traditional Spanish city's I have visited in Spain. With its' streets lined with orange trees, stunning architecture, horse drawn carriages, flamenco shows and bullring, Seville is the Spain that you envision.

I visited Seville in January and the weather was warm and dry and although still relatively busy, it was not crowded making it ideal for exploring everything the city had to offer.

Seville has a wealth of visitor attractions, I stayed for 3 nights and still never had the opportunity to explore as much as I had hoped to. If you can only stay for a few nights, here are my must see attractions:

  • Seville Cathedral and Giralda Tower- The third largest church in the world after St Peter's in Rome and St Pauls in London, the Cathedral towers over the entire city. Visitors can enter the Cathedral and marvel at its size and stunning architecture then climb to the top of La Giralda for panoramic views of the city.

  • Plaza de Espana- The Plaza de Espana lies in the middle of Maria Luisa park, a stunning, green oasis in the heart of the city. The plaza is made up of a grand, semi-circle of rose gold buildings surrounding a canal with arching bridges and a central fountain. Visitors can hire boats on the canal, go on a horse and carriage ride around the park or go on a Segway tour of the park. Climb to the top of one of the end buildings for the best views of the plaza.

  • Metropol Parasol- A modern structure in the middle of a city full of historic architecture, the Metropol Parasol is the place to visit for the best views of the city. Over 26 metres high and 150 metres long, this giant structure is made from a criss-cross lattice forming six parasols. It's nicknamed 'Las Setas' or 'The Mushrooms'. For only 3 euros you can take the lift to the top of the structure and walk around it's sweeping pathways taking in the views of the city or sit at the café and enjoy a cold beer or sangria or you can go underneath the structure and visit the market and Antiquarium Museum.

These are my must sees but a trip to Seville wouldn't be complete without a visit to:

  • Royal Alcazares- A Moorish Palace in the city centre and setting for Game of Thrones.

  • The Bullring

  • Seeing a Flamenco Show

  • Stroll along the Guadalquivir River

  • Visiting the neighbourhoods of Triana and Macarena.

I flew to Seville from Edinburgh with Ryanair and stayed in Exe Sevilla Macarena, a stunning hotel opposite the Andalucian Parliament building and the ancient city walls. The hotel is a 30 minute walk from the city centre and has excellent transport links to the city and airport.
